Within the scope of the EU Horizon Europe–funded GEMSTONE Project, Acıbadem Mehmet Ali Aydınlar University and Trakya University jointly organized an international event titled “Information Day on Multilateral and Bilateral International Cooperation Project Calls.” Held on October 3, 2025, at the Trakya University Millet Kıraathanesi in Edirne, the event brought together numerous national and international stakeholders, including TÜBİTAK, the Trakya Universities Union, and various Balkan universities. Participants gained up-to-date insights into Horizon Europe and other international research funding programs and laid the foundations for new project partnerships.
In the opening speeches, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sertaç Arabacıoğlu, Director of the Trakya University Project Coordination Research and Application Center, emphasized the regional and global importance of academic collaboration. Among the distinguished speakers contributing to the event were Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Levent Altıntaş, Vice Rector of the International Hellenic University Prof. Dr. Konstantinos Diamantaras, Prof. Dr. Stoyanka Petkova-Georgieva, International Relations Coordinator of Burgas State University, Prof. Dr. Nikolay Marin, Rector of South-West University “Neofit Rilski,” Prof. Dr. Jovan Stepanovic, Rector of the University of Niš, and Prof. Dr. Mustafa Hatipler, Rector of Trakya University.
The event hosted 123 participants, including rectors, research managers, and both senior and early-career researchers from Turkey and the Balkans. The two-day program concluded with a city tour showcasing Edirne’s cultural and scientific heritage. This gathering stood as a tangible reflection of GEMSTONE’s mission to strengthen regional cooperation and enhance research capacity in Widening countries.
